25-year-old Ulrika Holmquist is currently having a seasonal start that any jockey would be delighted with and consequently she is hot property within Swedish racing and National press.
Originally from Gothenburg, Holmquist began her career in New Zealand in 2013/14 with a splash, by winning 10 out of her 63 rides in the first part of the season. After 40 wins in New Zealand she returned to her native Sweden in 2016. In 2017 she competed in the World Apprentice Championships in Abu Dhabi having won the New York qualifying leg on a complete outsider.
Having ridden out her claim last year, she is now riding with even more confidence and has every reason to be doing so. On June 6, she made headlines in the Swedish National newspapers by winning four of the six races at Nationaldagsgaloppen at Gardet on the Swedish National Day. One of the victories meant a little more than the rest; she won the Swedish qualifying leg of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship series and will now head to Abu Dhabi for the final in November. She has since then followed up by winning the Swedish 2000 Guineas at Bro Park on June 16 onboard 50/1 long shot Arabianranta.
Ulrika Holmquist is based at Bro Park in Stockholm where she rides out for trainer Annika Sjökvist. She travels to all the Scandinavian tracks to ride.
