Ina Veronika Toverud
Ina Veronika Toverud from Norway has only been riding on the Scandinavian tracks for two years, but she has plenty of experience, having spent almost four years in Australia riding trackwork, barrier trials, and a handful of races.
Upon her return to Norway in 2016, Toverud decided to get an amateur jockey’s license and was off to a great start with a victory in her first attempt at Øvrevoll in Oslo that year. Toverud also rode in the neighbouring countries Sweden and Denmark with success and became the champion amateur jockey in Scandinavia. In Sweden, she had a strike rate of near 40% with five wins in just 13 rides.
In 2017, she decided to go professional and joined Danish trainer Flemming Velin as an apprentice, but continued to ride in both Norway and Sweden and became the champion apprentice jockey in Scandinavia. She was also the leading female jockey in the three countries. At the beginning of this year, Toverud joined leading Swedish trainer Lennart Jr Reuterskiöld’s team.
Toverud has also had great success in the HH Sheika Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship, winning not only a race at Klampenborg in Denmark but also the championship final in Abu Dhabi last year. Having already won the apprentice championship, Toverud is now looking to add a victory in the Lady Jockeys’ Thoroughbred World Championship to the CV.
